The UK Vineyard Association (UKVA) calls these sparkling wines British Fizz. Though they are similar, they cannot technically be called Champagne, Prosecco or Cava, because these terms are all protected under EU law. The UKVA has applied for the term British Fizz to receive the same protected-name status. If granted, it will mean that only certain sparkling wines made from British-grown grapes will be able to use the term on their labels.
